The two-day-long hackathon inspired the staff to innovate
In April, Remion organised its own two-day-long Hack the Portal event, where employees were challenged to innovate new solutions for Remion’s business environment. The entire staff was able to work together, learn new things and develop e.g. user interfaces and analytics for applications implemented by Remion as well as make joint working methods and processes more efficient.
The best part was that together with your own team you could come up and implement with a presentation and practical demonstration of your own choice, which was used to verify the functionality of the idea that had been developed during the couple of days to the entire staff.

Predefined challenges release new ideas
The event is organised in the form of a hackathon, where participants are divided in to teams to solve predefined challenges. The challenges directed staff to consider solutions on how, Remion can increase productivity and, above all, serve customers better in the future. The teams delved in to e.g. the opportunities of artificial intelligence, visual analytics tools, system integrations, portal’s mobile optimisation and portal’s user data development.
Hack the portal was a success, because it achieved good and concrete results, which the teams presented to the rest of the group in their demos. The objective of the event was met, since the teams were able to develop solutions in two days, which will change Remion’s internal operating methods, and which will also be visible in Remion’s customer interface.
Solutions for growing performance and product selections
“There were several pearls among the presented solutions, which can be further developed to be used to grow Remion’s performance and product selection both in terms of quantity and quality. For example, automated data analyses and mobile user interfaces allow just the right data to be provided to the customer in real time”, Remion’s Miika Valtonen summarises.
The two-day crunch ended on Saturday evening with an awards ceremony, and good food and drinks as well as a sauna at Rajaportti.
