Orwak’s smart waste containers are exported around the world

Competitive advantage with smart waste containers

Only imagination sets limits to the utilisation of industrial internet. At Orwak, remote monitoring and its opportunities are utilised in waste containers.

The smart TOM waste containers that have been created as a result of this, made the company extremely competitive in global markets. Smart TOM waste container indicate their fill levels, emptying needs and inform any faults without delay and in this way optimise emptying intervals and maintenance intervals. At Orwak, remote monitoring is now being planned to be implemented as part of the company’s other products.

Due to Remion’s customer-oriented operating method and business understanding, we were able to develop a new kind of product for the market, a smart TOM waste container

Equipment data makes processes more efficient

Orwak is a world leader in compaction and baling solutions for solid waste materials. The aim of Orwak’s industrial internet project was to utilise equipment data better and make internal processes and business profitability more efficient by optimising waste containers’ emptying intervals and maintenance intervals. With equipment data and optimisation, the aim was to build a competition advantage in the increasingly challenging markets.

Customised software

The overall solution of remote monitoring made Orwak extremely competitive. The smart waste container holds 7 times more waste than a normal waste container, and data concerning the container’s location, operations and fill level can be monitored in real time. The waste container indicates its fill level, emptying need and informs of any faults.

Concrete customer benefits were achieved already during the first pilot. The end user can monitor notifications via the easy-to-use portal anywhere and at any time. The end users can also use the customer portal to optimise their TOM waste containers’ emptying intervals and maintenance intervals.

Results

Operations Efficiency

Emptying waste containers at large sites was made more efficient, because an inspection round of containers was no longer needed.

Automated Monitoring

Since the containers are monitored in real time and their maintenance needs are automatically communicated to the right service organization, maintenance became a lot more efficient.

Maintenance Optimization

The usability and reliability of waste containers were improved as a result of timely emptying and optimized maintenance intervals.
